Alexis Basson BEng (Mech) - Cum Laude, BEng Hons (Mech), MNFPA, MIAAI, is a mechanical engineer with additional training, expertise and extensive experience in fire losses.
 He is the Sole Proprietor of
Alexis Basson Consulting, which was founded in 2003. The Company specializes in the forensic investigation and reconstruction of mechanical failures and fires primarily for the insurance, automotive, mining and marine industries.
He has performed over 1000 fire and mechanical failure investigations to date. The majority of the investigations involved machinery (i.e. commercial vehicles, cars, agricultural equipment, static and mobile mining equipment, and marine vessels).
The output is a technical report which may be used in a Court of Law for criminal prosecution, or civil litigation (largely for liability / recovery purposes). Reports are also utilized as part of expert witness testimony in Court Cases. A number of civil liability cases have been won (and none lost).
The reports typically include reliable conclusions and technical / operational / safety recommendations which can be utilized to minimize similar losses. Recommendations often include modifications, configuration changes or re-design and extend to fixed (on-board) fire detection- and suppression systems fitted to machinery, as well as to protection systems. Reports are submitted in Adobe PDF format, but can also be presented as a Power Point output upon request.
Installations are also compared to applicable regulations and standards, if necessary.
